This shocking footage shows the moment a fire tore through a popular nightclub in Goa, killing at least 25 people. The fire engulfed Birch nightclub, located near a popular beach. Several of those killed in the blaze were tourists, and police said the fire also claimed the lives of four people from the same Delhi family. According to officials, most of those killed were the club’s workers who had been in the basement during the fire. A Goa police official said many had been gathered on the first floor for a live music show when the blaze started, and in panic, many ran towards the exit and got out. But some seemed to have gone towards the basement and got trapped. A police report filed after the incident noted that the venue ‘did not have an emergency exit door on the ground floor, as well as on the deck floor to evacuate in case of emergency.’ Firefighters also struggled to reach the fire, given the narrow crossing on the small lake which leads to the building. The nightclub’s manager has been arrested, and an arrest warrant has been issued for the club’s owner.
